Lima, November 19 (Andina)- The US government's cooperation with Peru in different areas will reach over US$130 million in 2013, said USAID deputy assistant administrator for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mark Lopes.

In a statement to Andina news agency on Sunday, Lopes said US$50 million of the 2013 Cooperation Budget, will be allocated to drug war, while another significant sum would go directly to development programmes focused on alternative crop cultivation of the coca leaf in Peru.

He stressed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has earmarked US$130 million for cooperation in Peru. Of this amount, US$55 million is committed only to activities concerning fight against drug trafficking.

While the USAID representative indicated that it is not possible to anticipate the exact amount of cooperation funds for 2013, he noted the amount would be equal to or slightly lower than the 2012 cooperation fund.

"In 2012, USAID allocated US$133 million total assistance in Peru. Our commitment is in the long term. Despite budget adjustments, I do not see, a large decrease in our collaboration with the Peruvian government", Lopes said.
