OLADE and Austrian Cooperation Promote Latin America and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Program

The objective of the project is to create an institutional framework for energy efficiency in four countries in Central America and the Caribbean through the strengthening of the institution responsible for overseeing and directing the energy efficiency programs nationwide, including laws and regulations, in order to achieve sustainable energy savings, differing investment needs in the energy sector, improving the country's finances and reducing CO2 emissions.

Quito, April 9- The Latin American Energy Organization, in coordination with the Austrian Development Cooperation, ADA, carries out the Latin America and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Program, PALCEE in two Central American countries, El Salvador and Nicaragua, and two Caribbean countries, Grenada and Jamaica.

The objective of the project is to create an institutional framework for energy efficiency in four countries in Central America and the Caribbean through the strengthening of the institution responsible for overseeing and directing the energy efficiency programs nationwide, including laws and regulations, in order to achieve sustainable energy savings, differing investment needs in the energy sector, improving the country's finances and reducing CO2 emissions.

Among the major achievements of PALCEE comprises the institutional frameworks that promote energy efficiency projects in the four beneficiary countries, which will provide sustainability to the situational isolated efforts that have been made in regards to energy efficiency.

Similarly, there has been support for efficient lighting projects in the Central American countries benefiting underserved communities; thist will be as well implemented in the Caribbean participating countries. Furthermore, in order to train staff of the institutions responsible for energy efficiency, a demonstration projects has been carried out, this, to highlight the benefits of incorporating efficient equipment in different economic sectors.
